Book of Mormon movie cast announced

The cast for Gary Rogers upcoming Book of Mormon feature film has been announced on the movie's official website. The page includes cast names as well as photos and capsule biographies. All parts except for the lead role of Nephi and a smaller but key role, Joseph Smith, have been cast.

The introduction to the newly updated cast page reads:

We are pleased and proud to announce the cast for The Book Of Mormon Movie! Many of the actors have spent a lifetime performing on stage, screen and television. Others are new and "rising stars." ALL of the actors were selected for their ability to bring their various characters to "life."

A table on the page indicates the part, the name of the actor cast in the part, and includes a photograph of each. Each photo links to a sub-page with a larger photograph and a capsule biography.

We will be holding a casting session in Los Angeles ONLY for the part of Nephi. This will NOT be an open casting session. If you would like to be considered for this part, please send a headhsot and resume to the address below.

The following parts are available:

Nephi
Male. Age 21-26. Must be large in stature. Minimum of 6'1", or preferably taller. Must be muscular and have a "leading man" face. Must have EXTRAORDINARY acting skills.

Joseph Smith
Male. 17-20. Must resemble Joseph Smith at that age. We will consider a non actor for this role and provide "voice over," providing the individual has a very STRONG resemblance to Joseph Smith.

Jacque has the unique ability to "light up" the screen! Jacque is an accomplished stage, screen and television actress. Jacque's film credits include: God's Army, It's Alright Ma, I'm Only Trying, Brigham City, Drive Me Crazy, Wish Upon A Star, Hostage High, Net Worth, and Only Once.

Jacque has been the Co-Star on two episodes of Touched By An Angel (CBS), Guest Star on two episodes of Promised Land (CBS), Co-Star of Guiding Light (CBS) and has had a recurring role on Resurrection Boulevard.

Jacque's stage credits include: Prince of Peace (City Rep. Theater), Saturday's Warrior (Vine Street Theater), Babes In Toyland (City Rep. Some of Bryce's TV credits include: playing George Washington in A Republic If You Can Keep It (PBS), playing Thomas Jefferson in Jefferson At Monticello (PBS), Ancient Secrets of The Bible (PBS), Day In Court (ABC), Rescue 911, Touched By An Angel (CBS) and many more.

Bryce has had more than 200 roles in theatrical productions in California, Utah and Idaho. Some of his credits include: My Fair Lady as professor Henry Higgins, Hamlet as Hamlet, Mary Mary as Dirk Winston, The Glass Menagerie as Tom and A Christmas Carol as Scrooge. Lisa graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Communications. Lisa has appeared in a variety of stage plays, television commercials and industrial videos.

Lisa's stage credits include: The Other Side of Love (Hale Center Theatre), A Street Car Named Desire, Talking With, No Exit, A Doll's House, Nunsense, A Tale of Cimmeron City, Steel Magnolias and Romeo & Juliet.

Other than a brief walk-on in Charly, this will be Lisa's film debut.

Lisa is a professional choreographer and will choreograph all the dance scenes in The Book of Mormon Movie.


Ron Frederiskson
[Ishmael]
Ron Frederiskson has been involved in acting, directing and teaching acting for over 50 years. Ron has a ph.D. in Performance Studies from the University of Utah. He was Professor of Theatre at Emporia State University for 27 years. Ron is currently Adjunct Instructor at the Department of Theatre, University of Utah.

Ron has directed over seventy plays and musicals for University, Regional, and Community Theatre including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In addition, Ron has had roles in over fifty stage plays and musicals. Some of Ron's stage Credits include: South Pacific, You Can't Take It With You, Ten Little Indian's, The Visit, Love Letters, Born Yesterday, The Apple Tree, My Fair Lady, The Pirates of Penzance, On Golden Pond, The Rainmaker, Julius Caesar, Summer & Smoke, Molly Sweeney, The Man Who Came To Dinner, and King Lear.

Ron's film credits include: The Darkling, The Hideout, leading roles in 6 BYU films, and the role of Satin in the original Temple film for the LDS Church.


Roberta Shore

A native of San Gabriel, California, Roberta Shore began her career at age ten, singing country western songs at supermarket openings with Tex Williams, who invited her to join his weekly TV show from Knotts Berry Farm. She subsequently joined the Pinky Lee Show, NBC's number one rated children's daily television program. From there she went on to make several guest appearances on such TV shows as GE Theatre with Ronald Regan and Nancy Davis, Father Knows Best, With Robert Young, The Donna Reed Show, Ozzie and Harriet, Zane Grey Theatre, Laramie, The Tall Man, Lawman, Wagon Train, Maverick, as well as numerous appearances on the Lawrence Welk Show. She appeared many times on The Mouseketeers (though not a Mouseketeer herself), including the role of Laura the snob, Annette Funicello's nemesis on Disney's Annette series. Roberta is perhaps best known for her starring role as Betsy Garth, opposite Lee J. Cobb on NBC's series, The Virginian.

Roberta's movie credits include the role of Francesca in Walt Disney's The Shaggy Dog with Fred McMurray, and featured roles in Because They're Young with Dick Clark and Tuesday Weld, The Young Savages with Burt Lancaster, and A Summer Place with Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue.

As a singer, Roberta performed the theme song for The Shaggy Dog, toured Australia with the Mouseketeers, did many recordings with Lawrence Welk on the DOT label, and for Walt Disney on the BUENA VISTA label with the Tutti Commerata orchestra, including an album with Rex Allen featuring songs from the score of the motion picture Say One For Me. She also made an album for DECCA with Virginian regular Randy Boone entitled Singing Start of the Virginian, which showcased songs performed on the TV series.


Cragun Foulger

Cragun Foulger is a very versatile stage and screen actor. Cragun's stage credits include: Ann Frank (The Art Barn), Night Words (The Jewett Theater), Skin of Our Teeth (Nelke Theater, BYU), Ordinary People (Orem Little Theater), The Tree (Babcock Theater), Plain and Fancy (The Shell), Taming of the Shrew (Orem Little Theater).

Cragun's film and TV credits include: The Man With Three Wives (ABC Movie of the Week), Salt Lake To Mesa, Andersonville, In God's Country, The Work and the Story, Sweet Remembrance, Apathy Dining, and Mountain Of The Lord.

Cragun provided the voiceover for young Joseph Smith at the Temple Square Visitor Center.


Jessica Giauque

Jessica has received acting training from the University of Utah, Hale Center Theater and Pages Lane Theater. Jessica's stage credits include: Seven Brides For Seven Brothers, Mame, The Gift of Christmas (Promised Valley Playhouse), The Sound of Music, and Annie Get Your Gun (Grand Theater).

Jessica's film and TV credits include: Don't Look Under the Bed (Disney), Dojo Kids (Q.E.M. Productions), Destination Stardom (Masini Productions), Friendship field (Feature Films For Families), Family Answers (Bonneville Productions), and Just In Time (Leucadia Films).


David Weeks

David earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Utah State University. He also studied at the Musical Theatre Workshop under Madeline Doherty in New York City.

Melanie has performed in a variety of TV Commercials, TV shows and feature films. Melanie's film credits include: Just A Dream (Danny Glover Productions), Jumping For Joy (Feature Films For Families), The Runner (Runner Productions), Penny Promise (Feature Films For Families) and Return To The Secret Garden (Feature Films For Families).

Melanie's TV credits include: Walker Texas Ranger (CBS), Promised Land (CBS) and Touched By An Angel (CBS), as well as a host of TV commercials.


Kirby Heyborne
[Sam]
Kirby Heyborne is quickly making a name for himself as an extremely versatile actor. Kirby recently had a string of starring roles in such feature films as: Saints At War, The RM, The Best Two Years of My Life, and Social Suicide. Kirby has also had supporting roles in Singles Ward, The Work and the Story and Cummorah/Kirtland Project.

Kirby recently demonstrated his dramatic ability with his beautiful rendition of the 23rd Psalm at The Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas Concert in the Conference Center.

Kirby is known for his ability to do "voices" and characters. He has a wide range of domestic accents; foreign accents include: Proper English, Cockney, Scottish, Irish, Spanish, German, Indian, and Slavic.


Carrie Stringfellow
[Sam's wife]
Carrie literally came out of nowhere to "dazzle" us with her talent. The Book of Mormon Movie will be Carrie's acting and film debut!

Carrie is a 2-time All-State track athlete in the high hurdles and intermediate hurdles. Carrie was also 2-time All Conference in track. She broke the UVSC High Hurdle record, Outdoor and Indoor! Carrie was part of the 4 by 100 relay team that broke the school record.

In addition to being a champion athlete, Carrie is also an experienced model. Carrie has always had the ability and the desire to act but never pursued it. Watch Carrie light up the screen!


Michael Flynn

Michael Flynn has appeared in more film and TV roles than perhaps any other current actor in the State of Utah.

Bruce has appeared in dozens of feature films, television shows and stage plays. Some of his film credits include: The Poof Point (Disney), Daughter of the Streets (20th Century Fox), A place to Be Loved (CBS), Silk Hope (CBS), A More Perfect Union (PBS), The Executioner's Song, A Place to Be Loved, Silk Hope, The Penny Promise and Where Rivers Meet. Bruce has appeared in many motion pictures produced by the LDS Church including: How Rare a Possession, The Lamb of God and Testaments.

In addition to his many motion picture roles, Bruce is a veteran actor in some of the most popular shows on television, including: Melrose Place, L.A. Law, Sisters, Tour of Duty, Hill Street Blues, Highway to Heaven, Major Dad, The Young and the Restless, General Hospital, Paradise, Reasonable Doubts, Promised Land, Everwood, Touched by an Angel and many more.

Bruce's stage credits include; King Lear, The Three Sisters, 1776, Star Spangled Girl, Long Day's Journey Into Night, Annie Get Your Gun, Terra Nova, A Marriage Proposal, Macbeth and more.


Susan Rounkles

Susan has performed in a variety of TV commercials, stage plays, musicals, TV shows and films as an actress, singer and dancer.

Susan's film credits include: Road to Riches, A Happy Place, Luna's Moon, A Fine Day, and The Night Fly.

Susan's stage credits include: Deseret Destiny, Babes in Toyland, Murder Mystery and The Royal Wrap.


Eden Benson

Eden has appeared in many stage plays and musicals. The Book of Mormon Movie will be Eden's film debut.

Eden's stage credits include: Charlie's Aunt, The Moustrap, Gost of a Chance, Fiddler on the Roof, Nauvoo Adventure, Jane Eyre, Rendezvous in Old Nauvoo, Oliver and The Music Man.


Richard Clifford

Richard has appeared in a variety of roles on stage, screen and television.

Richard's stage credits include: Shenandoah (Playmill Theatre), I hate Hamlet (Provo Theatre Company), The Taming of the Shrew (Arena Theatre), To Kill a Mockingbird (Pardoe Theatre), Big River (Playmill Theatre), R. & G. Are Dead (ARTE) and Joyful Noise (Pardoe Theatre).

Richard's Film credits include: The Testaments, Brigham City, Iscariot, Collusion and Barren Earth. In addition, Richard has had a recurring role on Touched By An Angel (CBS).


Sheryl Lee Wilson

Sheryl Lee earned a B.A. in speech and Dramatic Arts and an M.A. in Theater Arts & Interpretation from Brigham Young University. She has also received training in Camera acting techniques and Advanced acting at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Sheryl Lee's stage credits include leading roles in: Charley's Aunt (Pasadena Playhouse), Half-Way to Heaven (Glendale Centre Theatre), George M! (Sacramento Music Circus), The Sound of Music (Sacramento Music Circus), Mame (Sacramento Music Circus), Oliver! (BYU) and Carousel (BYU).

Sheryl Lee was Mrs. Utah 1996-97 and 3rd runner-up to Mrs. United States 1996!


Christopher Miller

Christopher is an accomplished stage, screen and television actor. However, Christopher's is probably best known for his voice over work. Christopher has performed in over 500 radio and television commercials for such clients as AT&T, McDonalds, JC Penney and Dodge.

Christopher's film credits include: The RM, The Work and the Story, Our Boy's, What Manner of Man, They Killed Mike, Forgiveness and Your Baby.

Christopher's stage credits include: Fiddler on the Roof (Pioneer Memorial Theatre), 1940's Radio Hour (Theatre 138), Jane Eyre (Murray Theatre), Skinny Lincolns Comedy Troupe (Trolley Square Live), Star Spangled Girl (Valley center Playhouse), The Odd Couple (Rose Wagner Theatre), Chez Comedez (The Wooden Dog) and My Fair Lady (The Grande Theatre).


Rebecca Larsen

Rebecca received her training in acting at Weber State University. She is an accomplished Singer and actor.

David Shipp

Dave received his training in Theater Arts at Brigham Young University. He is an accomplished stage and screen actor and also a comedian.

Jennifer Nix

Jennifer is an accomplished singer and actress. She was the featured vocalist for Desert Book/Shadow Mountain Showcase 2000, Lagoon Amusement Park entertainer and Lead singer in two bands: "Down Boy" and Voodoo Box."

Jennifer's stage credits include: The Scarlet Pimpernel (Hale Center Theatre), Legend of Sleepy Hollow (City Rep. [3 JANUARY 2003 - When the official website for Rogers' Book of Mormon movie originally went online there was no "Filmmakers" section. Not long after the original version of the site was online, however, the "Filmmakers" section was added, listing Rogers and other key crew members. A few additions and changes have been made to this section since then. The major change during the last few days was the addition of Craig Clyde as a co-producer and script consultant. Below is the text from the Filmmakers section as it appeared today. Photos accompany each name and capsule biography on the original site.]


Gary Rogers
Producer/Writer/Director

Gary Rogers has years of experience in the production industry, including experience in writing, acting, producing and directing. Mr. Rogers has produced and directed hundreds of projects over many years. He has Directed Academy Award-winning actor Charlton Heston and many other Hollywood celebrities. Mr. Rogers founded International Television Productions in 1984. He recently sold ITP to devote full time to Producing the Book of Mormon Movie. ITP has produced multimedia projects for some of the world's most renowned companies, including Rockwell International, Coca-Cola, Nissan, Motorola, Mitsubishi, Honeywell, AT&T, Dow Chemical, Lucent Technologies, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and many more. Mr. Rogers and ITP have been the recipient of the Industry's highest awards, including First place at the United States Film and Video Festival, The Houston International Film and Video Festival, and 29-time winner of the coveted International Telly award, the equivalent of an Oscar in non-broadcast video.


Lance Williams
Co-Producer

Lance Williams is an accomplished Writer, Producer, Director and Actor. Lance started his long career in the entertainment industry at the age of eight! As an actor, Lance has appeared in dozens of projects, including such notable films as "Airport 75," "Hamlet," "Birds of Prey," and "Star Wars, Return of the Jedi."

Williams is the Director of the Professional Actors Workshop in Hollywood where he has trained actors for film and Television for more than twelve years. As an Associate Producer for National Independent Pictures in Hollywood, Lance helped develop and produce works for Network television and feature films.

In addition to writing for the Industry, Lance is also the author of three published books, including the novel adaptation of the extremely popular LDS play "Promised Valley." Mr. Williams has produced four feature films, including the highly acclaimed motion picture "Charly."


Craig Clyde
Co-Producer & Script Consultant

Craig Clyde has been in television and film most of his adult life. He has appeared in over sixty major films and national television programs for all the major networks. In 1985 he was nominated for his first Emmy Award, followed by another nomination in 1989.

Craig is the co-founder of Majestic Entertainment, a motion picture production company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Craig currently has two motion pictures in development with Universal Pictures and Porchlight Entertainment.

Craig has written over forty feature film motion picture scripts. In addition, he has directed dozens of Hollywood stars, including: Mickey Rooney, Bo Hopkins, Brian Keith, David Bowe, Wilford Brimley, John Denver, Ernest Borgnine, Stacey Keach, Rue McClanahan, Scott Baio, Kate Jackson and many more.


David Hales
Co-Producer & Film Editor

David Hales attended Film School at Brigham Young University where he gained skills in producing, editing, and directing. As a student he also gained valuable experience working on several projects at the LDS Motion Picture Studio.

David's professional career has given him a broad range of experience in production. He has worked as a producer and editor for award wining multimedia software, and has written, directed and edited various corporate marketing and training videos.

David is a natural on the computer, which has enabled him to take advantage of all the latest technological advancements in audio and visual editing. He is also an accomplished software trainer and web designer having worked with over 30,000 people nationwide.


Robert C. Bowden
Music Composer

Robert Bowden has a lifetime of experience as a Composer, Arranger, Conductor and Musical Director. He has performed in the world's finest concert halls to standing ovations! Mr. Bowden learned the art of conducting from the late Arthur Fiedler, famed conductor and founder of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Bowden was Musical Director and Conductor for Promised Valley Playhouse for many years. He has composed and arranged hundreds of musical scores including two Musicals and three Oratorios.

Mr. Bowden spent twenty-five years as the Musical Director of the Mormon Youth Symphony and Chorus on Temple Square and was former Associate Conductor of the world-renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He has provided music for many films produced by the LDS Church.

Mr. Bowden's recordings include a weekly radio series, nearly a dozen PBS and commercial television Specials and over 30 record and compact disc recordings. His television Special "Christmas World," won an Emmy Award!


Lisa Rogers
Production Manager

Lisa Rogers graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in Communications. Lisa is a professional choreographer and an accomplished actress, having appeared in TV commercials, corporate videos, stage productions and feature films.

Lisa started working at the young age of 14! She has held a variety of distinguished positions throughout the years, including Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President of Franklin Covey in Salt Lake City. Lisa is also an accomplished speaker. She was a former Utah state officer for DECA, a National marketing organization and has represented DECA as a speaker on a National basis.

Ms. Rogers spent several years as a Production Assistant for International Television Productions coordinating projects with scriptwriters, on and off-camera talent, producers, directors, camera operators, art departments and duplicating/packaging vendors.


Ira Baker
Film Editor

Ira Baker graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Film. Ira honed his skills in writing, editing and directing at BYU, winning several of the program's distinguished awards.

Professionally, Ira has had extensive experience in film and video production. Ira has edited projects for many of the world's finest corporations, including, Rockwell International, SBC, Coca-Cola, Lucent Technologies, Honeywell and many more.

Ira has gained a strong reputation for his work in animation and motion graphics. In addition, Ira is also skilled in DVD design and authoring. Mr. Baker has developed a keen sense for story and a natural instinct for how a film should flow.


Joan Speakman Peterson
Casting Director

Joan Peterson has been in the film industry in Salt Lake for the last five years. Joan is a former talent agent and has worked with a variety of talent representing them to producers and directors for work in films, television shows, and commercials both locally and nationally. You will find some of her talent in projects such as "Testaments", "Touched By An Angel", and most recently, many of her talent star in the film "Charly"

Joan left the agency side of the film industry to open up her own casting company "Starlight Creative Media" working with companies such as Bonneville Productions, Motivfilms, and Comsic Pictures.

Although Joan spends most of her time behind the camera, she can be found playing the role of The Judge in the soon to be released movie "Day Of Defense". Joan is also the afternoon host of Utah's top Sunday radio show "Sounds of the Sabbath" on KOSY106.5.


Allen Lafferty
Production Designer/Art Director

Allen has spent the last 15 years working in Hollywood. He is known for his skill in many types of specialized film construction techniques, including: large scale set construction, sculpting, mold making, miniatures, air and water craft, vacuform, armor, etc.

Allen has worked on over 40 major Hollywood motion pictures during his career, including: Independence Day, True Lies, Mars Attacks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Father of the Bride, Cable Guy, American Beauty, Wild Wild West, Training Day, and many more.

Allen's LDS Church projects include: Kirtland Visitor's Center Film, Palmyra Visitor's Center Film, Nauvoo Film, and more.


Scott S. Lafferty
Set Construction Coordinator

Scott has over 10 years experience working in Hollywood on major motion pictures as a Foreman, Gang Boss, and Journeyman Carpenter. Additionally, Scott recently completed several projects for the LDS Church at the Motion Picture Studio in Provo, Utah.

Scott's credits include some of Hollywood's biggest motion pictures, such as: Independence Day, Cable Guy, Mars Attacks, Godzilla, Time Machine, Dante's Peak, Beverly Hills Ninja, Training Day, Wild Wild West, 13th Floor, and many more.

Scott has also constructed music video sets for Michael Jackson and N'Sync, and sets for many TV shows such as The Practice, Crime Scene Investigation (C.S.I.), and others.


Anne Rose
Costume Designer & Wardrobe

Anne Rose graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Clothing and Textiles. Anne has considerable experience in all manner of clothing design and creation, having worked nine years as a contract seamstress.

Anne was Vice President of the BYU Fashion Society. She was also an Intern for Textile/Clothing Technology Corporation. In addition, Anne is a returned missionary from the Russia, St. Petersburg Mission.

Anne's film experience includes: Costume Designer for "The Prophet," produced and directed by Richard Dutcher, Costume Designer for "Flyboys," a Rocco DeVilliers Feature Film and Wardrobe Assistant for "Return to Harmony."
