TREASURE HOUSE:

The Utah Mining Story

(1995) Join Ed Ames as history comes to life in this compelling story of Utah mining and travel in time to 19th-century Utah as chapters of colorful mining history unfold.  Learn of fabulous wealth, rich discoveries and folktales; even Spanish gold. Travel with Ed above and below ground to discover a chapter of Utah history, foreign to most Utahns and now offered to the rest of the world.

From Bingham Canyon (the world's largest open pit copper mine) where 40 languages were spoken to a Chinese cemetery at Silver Reef where no bodies remain and "Silver Trees" once stood; and from the discovery of Park City silver to the richest ore chimney in the world at Eureka; Utah mining is a blend of facts better than fiction. Witness the tragic Winter Quarters coal mine disaster.

Utah mining blends real tales of the "old west" with rags to riches accounts of the lucky. Its history is summed up in superlatives; the largest, the richest, the deepest, some of the most tragic and at least one of the strangest.

TREASURE HOUSE offers an in depth view of one of the most colorful chapters of Utah history and the role Utah's mining has had on its nation; a chapter that is centuries old and still being written.

Running time:  1 hour 54 minutes
